SITE’s dynamic directors have formed a training, professional development, consultation & employment organisation that is able to respond to changes in the hospitality, tourism and event industries as they occur.

SITE Academy provides a training and education environment in operational facilities. Students can witness, participate in and act out theories and skills in a ‘real’ environment where not only the Academy but operations management and customers can drive the level of presentation, product and service delivery.

The primary directive of staff recruitment is to employ dynamic people where lecturers are replaced with Professional Development Managers (PDM). In order to deliver contemporary training staff are drawn directly from industry. This not only ensures a close relationship with industry, and assistance to students beyond the classroom but also provides inspiration to the students because of the recent achievements and experiences of the Professional Development Managers.

SITE Academy adopts a culture that recognises that continuous improvement is a daily exercise. The needs of schools, industry and legislative compliances are changing and evolving therefore requires constant research, planning and implementation of ideas and strategies to meet these changing demands. At the same time there is a need to review our own organisation’s performance, from courseware, lecturing methods, and work experience structures to how we spread our message. Above all we aim to best assist our students achieve their ambitions and career goals.

History

SITE was established by Michael Sfera in 2001. It was originally called Sfera's Industry Training & Employment (SITE).

The inspiration behind SITE Academy came from five main areas, as listed:

• The varying seasonal human resource needs of Sfera's on the Park Convention Centre & 1877 Restaurant.
• The skills shortage in Australia
• Limited exposure or understanding of the hospitality & tourism industries in the High School Sector
• The growing professionalism globally of the hospitality industry
• Some local training organisations lacked lecturers who were working in, or recently worked in the industry, and hence some information being relayed to students was not contemporary or industry relevant.

As a leading local hospitality and event management entrepreneur, Michael currently manages various events, hospitality projects and venues. He has a degree in Tourism & Hospitality and has been a recipient of many awards.

In 2005 SITE was awarded the South Australian Telstra & Australian Government Small Business Award. Today, the academy offers more then just training services, with e-training and consultation now an integral part of the service provision of SITE.
